I tried using the tcpip function ( http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/11802 ). It seems to connect but when I try to read or write something, the instrument shows error. Has anyone been able to accomplish this before?

Hi Shirish,

You can do so using Instrument Control Toolbox.
Instrument Control Toolbox allows you to do communication over TCPIP and VISA-TCPIP
Do check out examples/demo on the http://www.mathworks.com/products/instrument/demos.html
